Texas Governor’s Trophy Awarded to Accessology CEO Kristi Avalos

Lex Frieden Employment Award (LFEA) awarded to Kristi Avalos for her dedication to accessibility for all.

Austin, Texas, October 28, 2021:  The Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities has selected Kristi Avalos, President, and CEO of Accessology Too, LLC, as this year’s Lex Frieden Employment Award (LFEA) recipient of the Governor’s Trophy. This is the Committee’s highest honor and is awarded to a person who has achieved the greatest success in enhancing the empowerment and employment of Texans with disabilities.

Founder of Texas-Based Accessibility Consulting Firm Recognized for Impact

The Governor’s Trophy recognizes the long-term commitment and outstanding efforts at both the community and state levels. Over 40 years of Kristi Avalos’ life have been dedicated to removing obstacles and opening doors to education, employment, housing, restaurants, the arts, recreation, travel, government resources, and much more for people with disabilities all over the United States.

A Journey of Dedicated Service Was Launched Just after the ADA

Four months after the 1990 signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Kristi became a trailblazer in assisting public and private entities, such as cities, counties, schools, universities, airports, and stadiums in removing barriers so that people with disabilities have access to the opportunities that most people take for granted. She founded Accessology to accomplish these goals, pioneering the concept of accessibility consulting and becoming one of the nation’s foremost experts on the topic.

For over thirty years, Accessology has been a national leader in providing accessibility consulting services. It is one of the largest U.S. firms dedicated solely to accessibility and access issues. Besides building awareness in communities of the importance of accessibility in the lives of people with disabilities, Kristi and Accessology assist entities with onsite consulting and technical support to help them achieve accessibility compliance through assessments and ADA Transition Plan development.

Recognition for Impacting Communities Worldwide

Throughout her career, Kristi Avalos has impacted a broad spectrum of entities in becoming accessible to individuals with disabilities, opening employment and other opportunities once unavailable to this population. Notable projects have ranged from local high school athletic fields to the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, from hospitals and universities to the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, and from homeless shelters to Florida’s landmark Fontainebleau Resort.

Upon award notification, Kristi responded, “We all need to realize that EVERYONE matters—Every One. My passion for those who have differences comes solely out of the truth that everyone matters. I was fortunate enough to build a business around that concept. I was even more fortunate to find a staff of people who share that passion, have an extraordinary work ethic, and who love with their whole hearts. That allows us all to love both what we do and who we do it for. That kind of satisfaction is rare in companies today. We are indeed blessed.”

Mary Klentzman, a long-term advocate for people with disabilities, nominated Ms. Avalos for this award. She said, “Congratulations are assuredly due to Kristi for this very much deserved recognition for the extraordinary difference she has made in a multitude of communities throughout the nation to address and eliminate physical and attitudinal barriers to employment and preparation for employment for Texans with disabilities!”
